In short

What is business valuation?

A business valuation sets what a company is worth, on a stated basis of value and at a stated date. Valuers use three approaches: the income approach (usually discounted cash flow), the market approach (comparable listed companies and transactions) and, where relevant, the cost approach. The result is a value or a range, with the reasoning a buyer, auditor, regulator or court can test.

    Questions

What clients ask about business valuation.

How do I value my business?

A business is usually valued with the income approach, which discounts expected future cash flows, cross-checked against the market approach, which applies multiples from comparable listed companies and transactions. The right method depends on the purpose, the industry and the information available.

What are the three approaches to valuation?

The income approach, the market approach and the cost approach. The International Valuation Standards require the valuer to consider each and explain the one or ones relied on.

Who should sign a business valuation in Singapore?

For reports a regulator, auditor or court will read, use a qualified, independent valuer. Siong Yoong is a Chartered Valuer and Appraiser (CVA), the designation conferred by the Institute of Valuers and Appraisers, Singapore.

How long does a business valuation take?

Typically two to four weeks once the accounts and forecasts are available, longer for complex groups or when the value is for a dispute.

How much does a business valuation cost?

The fee depends on the purpose, the complexity of the company and who will rely on the report. VALLARIS™ quotes a fixed fee in writing after the first conversation, which has no fee.

Can you value a company for a shareholder dispute?

Yes. VALLARIS™ prepares valuations for buyouts, oppression claims and divorce proceedings, and the valuer can give expert evidence on them.
